The Final Fantasy Creatures of VIII. Final Fantasy Creatures

In 2001, Square released a set of trading figures called Final Fantasy Creatures. These figures depicted 9 creatures from the worlds of Final Fantasy VII through X. These small figures came in unmarked boxes so you would not know which figure you were getting. It works similar to collecting trading cards and each figure comes unassembled and with a it's own trading card. In addition to the 9 regular figures, there was a secret special figure that is rarer than the others. Although it is a secret figure, you can still find it's picture on the box if you look closely! If that still isn't enough for you, each figure comes in three versions: Full Color, Crystal and Metallic! In the following three years, Square released 3 more volumes of 10 Final Fantasy Creatures. That leaves us with 120 figures to collect! Within the Final Fantasy Creatures collection, Square devoted 10 creatures to Final Fantasy VIII. So, if you only collect FFVIII stuff, then you only have 30 figures to collect!

The crystal-like color version seems to have been made to look like water. Leviathan - Volume 1 / No. 3
Leviathan is my favorite FF Creature because he's this blue-ish/grean translucent color. He looks like one of those expensive little colored glass figurines and it's a very nice effect. Leviathan is wrapped around a red-violet crystal sphere has his mouth open as if he is about to attack. Leviathan is figure that isn't depicted in another form of action figure, so he's a cool addition to any collection. The figure stands about 2 1/8 inches tall (almost 6cm.) I highly recommend seeking out this item, specifically the color version.

He forms from a group of bats and sends hell to your foes. Diablos - Volume 1 / No. 4
Diablos is one of my favorites from the game and he looks cool as a figure too. He is depicted kneeling on an orb of some sort with his wings a little stretched out to his sides. I kinda like the way this figure looks as opposed to the GF action figure, but that's because of the pose this one has. The figure is about 2 1/4 inches tall and a little over 2 1/2 inches wide. (6cm x 7cm)

The Ultimate Guardian Force gets his own figure. Griever - Volume 1 / No. 5
Griever, the ultimate GF in the eyes of Squall. I don't personally care for Griever too much, but I am glad they made a figure out of him because most of the other GF already have figures and Griever did not. Now all we need is Eden in Volume 5! This figures stands just over 3 inches tall (right at 8 cm.)

Sorry. No photo. Odin - Volume 2 / No. 12
I have not seen this one yet so I can not describe it. I do know that you can combine it with Sleipnir (see below.)

Dude looks like a lady...or lady looks like a dude, actually. Adel - Volume 2 / No. 13
The figure itself depicts Adel standing on some kind of rock or something.. I'm not sure what it is. She has a small crystal ball at her feet and from her back comes long, tied-back hair and two wing-like appendages. What I enjoy about this figure is the fact that it's the only "Adel" figure out there. Some Creatures have ARTFX GF counterparts, but this is the only figure of Adel you can get. You are probably going to have a tough time getting ahold of it, but with the right resources and attitude, you can. Adel stands about 3 1/4 inches tall (just a little over 8 cm.)

Sorry. No photo. Sleipnir - Volume 2 / No. 20 (Secret)
This is Odin's horse, Sleipnir. It's cool that they made a figure from FFVIII a secret figure and not just all FFX figures. But that's not the only cool thing about this figure. Something that makes it unique is the fact that you can actually combine it with the Odin figure and have Odin riding Sleipnir. Pretty awesome, I think.

The three headed dog that guards the gates of hell. Cerberus - Volume 3 / No. 23
I honestly don't care for Cerberus very much and would have prefered that they did another figure that didn't already have a GF action figure counterpart> I would have loved to have seen a Phoenix.

Successor to Odin; wielder of 4 legendary weapons. Gilgamesh - Volume 3 / No. 24
The wielder of 4 weapons only actually comes with 3! Gilgamesh looks pretty cool because his cloak billows behind him and he's got his swords sticking out of the ground. A nice figure.

Sorry. No photo. Doomtrain - Volume 4 / No. 34
I have not seen this one yet, so I can not describe it.

Sorry. No photo. Ultimacia-Griever - Volume 4 / No. 35
I have not seen this one yet, so I can not describe it.
