How I chose sites |
1. All or most
information
has to be free.
2. The main purpose of
the
site is to provide information, primarily about consumer health, safety
or protection. Thus, I don't use sites which have the main
purpose
of promoting a product or service.
3. Sites should be from:
Government. (I'm from the US so I know about US govt sites. Sorry.)
Major organizations such as the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, or the Better Business Bureau.
Listed in or reviewed by well known sources, such as Readers Digest, Dateline, Better Homes and Gardens, zdnet, cnet. If possible, I'll link to the review.
4. Sites should be easy to
navigate,
especially with a 56k modem, which is what I have. No graphics loaded
sites.
5. Sites that don't require cookies or Java and don't have pop up ads. Just my preference. I don't like sites adding anything to my computer. I've also heard too much about security problems with cookies and Java, so since this site is about consumer protection, lets do without cookies and Java.
View this site without java so you won't get pop up ads!
6. Sites that don't require
you to register. Since one purpose of my site is about consumer
protection,
that also means privacy, so not giving out any more information about
yourself
than you have to.
Finally, most sites listed are
from
the US. I apologize to the international community. This
page
is just a hobby, very part time, and I just haven't had time to look
elsewhere.
If you have a suggestion that
fits
the above criteria, please let me know, AND send info about where the
site
is reviewed. If I don't know the site, I won't list it unless it
is reviewed by a major organization.
