What's Plaza Raid mod?

History

Plaza Raid Mod was found by Underground in early December 2003. It was the first mod made by me for Max Payne 2 : The Fall of Max Payne. The first version of the mod, version 0.6 Alpha, was released just few days later but limited only to 3DRealms forum community. Even though it contains so many bugs and glitches, the first version of Plaza Raid Mod (PR mod) got good respond from the public. The second version of the mod, version 1.0, was released on late December 2003, and unlike the first version, it was released but not limited only to 3DRealms forum community, but also to all Max Payne 2 community. It also got positive respond from the public, despite some minor problems that occur in some computer. The latest version, Plaza Raid Mod version 1.4, was released on 5 July 2004 and the development process took 6 months. It offers many new features such as new Dead Man Walking level, new tutorial level, expanded Plaza Raid level, and of course with fix to the previous bugs and glitches within the mod. During the develop-ment process of this version, Deflex joined Plaza Raid Mod and soon became Co-Leader with job mainly on mapping, modelling, and skinning. However, Deflex quitted the project just few days before the version 1.4 release.

Gameplay

Plaza Raid Mod (PR Mod) offers a new experience for Max Payne 2 with its Plaza Raid Level, a new Dead Man Walking level, and a tutorial level. Basically, the whole idea of this mod is about Max Payne being a police team member to strike Iron Plaza, which has been occupied by armed bad guys (cleaners). Your primary objective is to kill Kaufman (cleaner leader). To play Plaza Raid level, simply click 'Start Plaza Raid' on the main menu. To play Tutorial level, simply click 'How to Play'. And, to play Plaza Lobby Dead Man Walking level, click 'Plaza Lobby' on Dead Man Walking menu (you must first finish the game in Detective mode in order to access Dead Man Walking).

New features and changes

Version 1.4:
-Larger and more complex level, consisting of:
1.Office Complex // excluded in this version
2.Shopping Centre
3.Subway Station
-New Plaza Lobby Dead Man Walking level (plus 2 additional DMW levels)
-New sound for 9mm Pistol, Ingram, Pump Shotgun and AK47
-The building (plaza) now has a name: Iron Plaza
-New tutorial level
-Police trouser and Max police cloth modified
-Tweaked painkiller
-Tweaked bullet-time settings (again)
-New bullet-time music
-Some weapons damage power have been increased (including sniper and Dragunov)
-And many more...

Version 1.0:

-Larger and better level, more places to go
-More enemies and many new objects for cover
-Max now use NYPD cloth
-New sound for AK47, ColtCommando, Sniper, MP5 and Desert Eagle
-Police now have voice style of black ops (stay frosty!)
-More secret items (ammo, painkiller, etc)
-New Plaza Raid loading screen
-Tweaked bullet-time (Shootdodge now requires bullet-time)
-Numerous bugs fixed
-And many more...

Known Issues

Game Slowdown

Complaint has been received from some people about slowdown (lag) when playing Plaza Raid Mod level additions, particularly Plaza Raid level during certain part in the game. It happened mostly on low-end computers. We have tried to reduce and modify some things from these levels to make things run smoother. However, we highly recommended that at least your computer meets Max Payne 2 recommended system requirements (can be found in Max Payne 2 Readme) to avoid slowdown.

Mipmaps/DDS error

Some people have been known to get problem playing Plaza Raid level by getting the following error message:

Failed to peel mipmaps from DDS image: "DDS doesn't have full mipmap pyramid!"

Closing...

To fix this error:

1. Go to Options in Max Payne 2 startup screen

2. Under Video Settings, change both Texture Color Depth and Texture Resolution to High (see picture below).

Help needed!

For the next release, which is going to be a major changes, I will need a lot of help. First, I need someone who's good at building design or at least knows what's plaza architect (combined of shopping centre and office) looks like. Second, I'll also need people who can find the right texture and wants to give the texture for it. I'll also need people who are good at modding and can do some complicated things which is hard to do (animating, making complex prefab, coding). Of course, you'll get full credit for it.
