This webquest is a great way to get your students interested in using
technology to investigate nature! There are many great resources out
there and webquests help us as teachers point children towards them.
Duration of Activities: 6 periods
Prior Knowledge: For the purposes of this webquest on habitats it
is necessary that students already know about food chains and populations.
Students should be familiar with using the computer. Some of the
activity sheets can be completed on the computer for those that can or they
can be printed out and filled in.
Learners: This webquest may not be for all learners. It
might be a good way to challenge exceptional students that are looking for
more of a challenge. It would be up to the classroom teacher to decide
who it is appropriate for. It also may be a good activity for a couple
of students to complete together. This would offer students the
opportunity to practice their teamwork skills.
Other Opportunities: There are many opportunities for students to
present the information to their fellow classmates. They can show the
oil experiment to the class or share the flyer that they have to construct.
By allowing students to share some of the new information it may interest
other students to complete the webquest also.
Conclusion: This webquest provides students with many
opportunities to explore the internet in order to complete their worksheets.
This is a great way for students to safely see what kind of resources are
out there and how the internet can be used as a tool for learning. The
opportunity that students have to become the class expert is also a great
way to encourage leadership and promote self esteem. I hope you find
this webquest a success in your classroom!
