What Is It
Famvir tablets are used to treat herpes zoster, commonly referred to as ""shingles," in adults. Shingles is a painful rash with raised, red pimples on the trunk of the body, usually the back. Because
it is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, only people who have had chickenpox can get shingles. When prescribed for shingles, Famvir works best in people age 50 or over. Famvir
is also prescribed to treat attacks of genital herpes and to prevent future flare-ups. For people with HIV infections, it is used as a treatment for both genital and oral herpes.

Probenecid (Benemid) may increase the effects of Famvir ( Famciclovir )and lead to dangerous side effects. You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are taking pro

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not take a double dose of
this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

How to Use
Famciclovir comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken every 8 hours (three times a day) for 7 days to treat shingles. To treat genital herpes it is usually taken twice a day for 5 days.
Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take famciclovir exactly as directed. Do not take more or less
of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Use this medication as soon as possible after symptoms appear. Continue to take famciclovir even if you feel well. Do not stop taki
