Larry Huff's Soapy SalesThe Dodge Charger was a response to the fastback fad started by the Mustang and the Barracuda, but on a much larger scale. Based on the midsize Dodge Coronet model, the Charger was launced in 1966 and quickly became a sales hit with its dramatic fuselage styling of 1968. From the beginning, it packed serious muscle, from the 318 V8 to the all mighty 426 Hemi. Finally, the MOPAR street crowd had some serious midsize muscle to bring to the party.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesI do not know much about this car Dyno Don ran pro stock and funny car but I am not sure what this car is???

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesThe 1960 DeSoto line-up told the tale. The Firesweep and venerable Firedome lines were dropped. Station wagons and convertibles disappeared. The once glamorous limited edition Adventurer was demoted to Fireflite status. Fireflite in turn was pushed down to replace Firedome.Although they were few, the 1960 DeSotos were good. Both Fireflite and Adventurer boasted Chrysler Corporation's new Unibody construction. Along with Unibody came sounder build quality and an elaborate seven step rust proofing process.

Larry Huff's Soapy Sales The 1953 Chevrolet automobile came in three basic body styles. The 1500 and 2100 series continue from the previous years. However, the new Bel Air or 2400 Series is new for the 1953 Chevrolet models. Because the name, Bel Air, now applies to a series instead of an individual model, changes in the body style have been made. The hard-top coupe is now known as the Sport Coupe rather than the Bel Air Coupe, and the former Sport Coupe, the six-passenger, notchback coupe is designated the Club Coupe. The four models in the 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Series are set apart by a luxurious appearance, numerous refinements of exterior beauty, and lavishly appointed interiors. The Series comprises: a Four-door and Two-door Sedan, Sport Coupe, and Convertible.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesIntroduction: The Pontiac GTO is considered by many the first true muscle car. Whereas other manufacturers were concentrating on their fullsize lines, Pontiac saw the potential for dropping a big block engine into an intermediate frame and marketing it at a budget price. Pontiac sneaked past the GM restriction on this combination by making the GTO an option on the Tempest model, creating the hottest performance machine yet. The GTO sold in great numbers and would fuel the competition between GM, Ford, and Chrysler that would keep the muscle car industry thriving for years to come. The GTO would later evolve into the Judge, an extroverted option package of the blotted GTO, and would continue the tradition until the GTO died an embarrasing death in 1974.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesIt has never been proven that Henry Ford ever said, "You can paint it any color...," but the phrase has survived for 3/4 of a century and does indicate something about America's beloved Model T: its "steadfastness," its enduring and endearing "sameness." The first production Model T Ford was assembled at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit on October 1, 1908. Over the next 19 years, Ford would build 15,000,000 automobiles with the Model "T" engine, the longest run of any single model apart from the Volkswagen Beetle. From 1908-1927, the Model T would endure with little change in its design. Henry Ford had succeeded in his quest to build a car for the masses.

Larry Huff's Soapy Sales The GTO received a modest redesign for 1969. Most notable changes included; new grille inserts, elimination of the triangle door vent windows, and a new rear bumper. The 1969 GTO could be ordered in two different body styles - the hardtop and the convertible. A specially optioned GTO could be ordered which was called The Judge. The first 5000 Judges were painted Carousel Red (a bright shade of orange). The 1969 GTO's set of standard options included; bucket seats, special exterior trim, 350hp 400ci engine (optional Ram Air) with chrome valve covers and air cleaner, dual exhausts, and 3-speed manual transmission with Hurst floor mounted shifter.

Larry Huff's Soapy Sales1967 Richard Petty wins an incredible 27 Grand National races in HEMI Plymouth; 10 in a row.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesBeep-Beep! In 1968 Plymouth introduced the Road Runner, a car born from a marketing gimmick with a tie into the popular Warner Brothers cartoon bird. Plymouth's bird was a stripped down performer aimed at the budget conscious street racer. It was modeled after a restyled Belvedere body and featured no luxuries or frills to save weight and cost. Standard engine was a special 383 ci with 335 bhp. The Hemi engine could be ordered as an expensive option. The public scooped up the Birds as close to 45,000 were sold, far exceeding the goal of 2500. I had one and raced it and won a lot of races with it only wish I still had it...cool car..

Larry Huff's Soapy Sales Same car Black and white.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesButch Leal, "The California Flash" had raced an awesome tube chassised Plymouth in '73, then stunned everyone with a super clean 1965 Hemi Belvedere Super Stocker! Butch used his Pro Stock skills and was able to run nearly a half second under the SS/B class record. Butch racing Sox and Martin.

Larry Huff's Soapy Sales Nothing need be said about this car....the legend #3..

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesThroughout 1965, Sox was the scourge of the match race circuit, with his altered wheelbase "Paper Tiger" remaining almost unbeatable. He was also very successful with the "legal" NHRA Hemi Belvedere, and in 1966 was one of the few who could challenge the flip-top Comets with his long nosed "Baccaruda." In ‘67 it was back to legal type Super Stock cars, and in ‘68 the red, white, and blue North Carolina-based Hemi Cuda was the one to beat among Chrysler’s finest. Having gotten with Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins and "Dyno Don" Nicholson to race heads-up as "outlaw" Super Stockers during down times in 1969, they were instrumental in proposing and organizing a new, heads up doorslammer class for 1970. When NHRA introduced Pro Stock, were dominant, with a series of Cudas and Dusters that would maintain a stranglehold on the new eliminator until NHRA, in its infinite wisdom, would legislate the Hemi out of competitiveness.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesNot sure where I found this one just another coupe..

Larry Huff's Soapy Sales In the 1970s, the Chevy Vega had been the first American car to be manufactured using robots. Now computer technology began to make more of an impact on car design. GM tested computer models of cars to see what areas of the body were under stress, and adjusted the type of body material accordingly. Its Computer Command Control system went standard on all gasoline-powered models. The system’s heart was an on-board computer that continuously monitored and adjusted the air-to-fuel ratio and spark timing, controlling exhaust emissions and improving fuel economy.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesAfter nearly 14 years, Rich Guasco became one of drag racing's hottest competitors. A 28 year old mechanic from Pleasanton, California, Rich didn't find the right combination all of a sudden, he found the right class. Attacking the quarter mile with a series of dragsters, one gas and three fuel, his efforts had always been part-time and he was never able to keep up with the tough, professional competition that dominated the leagues. He found what he was looking for among the altereds. After putting together a B/Fuel Altered Roadster he was practically running with the dragsters again. Dubbed "Pure Hell", the Austin-bodied machine turned in times that would be respectable for fuel dragsters. "Pure Hell" held records for its class at strips up and down the coast from Kent, Washington to San Diego, California. The "Pure Hell" had class records at every strip the car has run, and captured the national AHRA and 1320 records. In August, 1968, it set the NHRA Fuel Altered AAF/A class record up to 208.80 mph at 7.68 seconds and won a two of three match race program against "Wild Willie" Borsch.

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesUpdate!!!  Photo contributed by Steve Estes. This #54 sprint car won 2 USAC features with Jerry Poland. It was also driven by Charlie Masters, Steve Chassey, Chuck Gurney, Joe Saldana, Doc Dawson, Larry Moore, and was last driven by Bob East (maker of Beast Chassis) in Oct. 1978. The car is all original and has an early Gaerte motor in it.  For more good pictures click here

Larry Huff's Soapy SalesAll I know about this copy is I think it is a 1964 Plymouth anyone have info on it write me...

John North Willys bought the Overland Automotive Division of Standard Wheel Company in 1908 and in 1912 named it the Willys-Overland Motor Company. Willys-Overland made both automobiles and trucks. The company was reorganized in 1936 after a depression bankruptcy to Willys-Overland Motors, Inc. Some of the coolest street rods are built from pre-WW2 Willys cars.

This is another mystery I do not remember where I found this photo. Any one have any info on this car let me know at Old Race Cars
